Denouement

All things considered

it wasn’t for naught

I learned to stop

before I got caught

up in your web

though I almost lost my mind

that you’re a tease

I should’ve known

in foresight

that light is darkness

in disguise

yet sometimes only later

you see

limerence taking its toll

on you

was what you believed

to be real

but finally the voice

of reason

raised her hand

to speak

and gives you

the report:

the future

looks bleak

that’s when I stopped

making excuses

to keep holding on –

don’t bother

missing me

when I’m gone.

– Maria

Maria was listening to “i hate u, i love u” by gnash feat Olivia O’Brien while writing this poem.
