Sometimes we can’t choose who we love and so we nurture that unrequited love in the hope that fate will open the beloved’s eyes – well a magic flower might do the trick too. At least in Shakespeare’s popular comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, magic seems to be the answer to life’s curse of finding and being with the one true love. Yet magic has its ups and downs and one drop on the wrong eyes can lead to more heartbreak than expected.
The University Players took it upon themselves to give Shakespeare’s classic comedy a contemporary twist: the story is still set in Greece, the character names are the same but what’s new is that Theseus is a (certainly more articulated) version of Dieter Bohlen and his and Hippolyta’s wedding sounds like a day at Coachella.
But fear not you Shakespeare lovers since first promotional pictures (have a look at the two pictures in this article and check out the trailer below) show that the UPs remain close to the legendary playwright’s vision of sex, drugs and rock’n’roll…
