Young At Heart
All her life she spent in the limelight.
Never took no for an answer,
Whatever she said was right.
No one was as daring as her.
She used to be the centre of every party,
only a fool would have tried to take her down.
Now she’s telling all these stories,
as if defending her long lost crown.
But vanity turned into despair.
She lives in a large house, formerly filled with greedy souls,
that’s blowing nothing more than hot air,
and the erstwhile queen of hearts is as cold as stone.
And what used to be beautiful is now a mere reminder of an old self
that is trapped in its youth and lost all its faith.
Maria was listening to ‘Never Going Back Again’ by Fleetwood Mac while writing this sonnet.
