Massive electronic beats, twisted vocals and hard, eloquent rap – Mykki Blanco comes to Hamburg and honours the Kampnagel stage with her forceful rap music.
Mykki Blanco is the teenage female alter ego of poet, musician and artist Michael Quattlebaum Jr. She uses rap to express herself, often borrowing from Quattlebaums poem book From the Silence of Duchamp to the Noise of Boys which was published in 2011.
Blancos music mixes riot grrrl rap with influences of industrial rock and pop, playing with other musicians pop-cultural heritage. In her performance she breaks traditional gender roles and places herself completely outside of them. But Mykki Blanco’s performance art goes even further than this, she also creates a whole new persona, not giving in to an unambiguous character but redefining herself as she pleases.
