If you ask your parents, studying 20 years ago was completely different from today – leading a true student’s life, squatting, fighting for your rights and a more easy-going everyday life than today. This is the era in which Café Knallhart has its roots. Luckily, there are some idealistic and dedicated people who saved the Café the values it stands for and some of the old student habits for today. Just like in the 1980s, when seminar room S27 was squatted and turned into the Café, everybody can take a time out here, drink fair trade coffee, relax with a vegan snack or visit and take part in numerous activities. You could watch a movie you might never come across in a cinema for free, take a shift behind the counter, do something to protect animals from abuse, meet new people or realize your own project. You can take part and be a part of the Café Knallhart.

You are bored of film nights that only adhere to leaning back, eating popcorn and getting lulled by some fairytale invented by “Hollywood’s finest”, to show you just what went wrong in your imperfect life? May we suggest an exhilaratingly different cinema to you: Indykino at the Café Knallhart. The films and documentaries shown on Tuesday evenings here are non-perfect, they show what went wrong in other people’s lives and tell stories about human mistakes as well as stories about people who take chances, who stand for their beliefs and who act against all odds. The only thing you have to do is visit the Café on a Tuesday evening, purchase an ecologically worthwhile movie snack, flop down on a sofa and watch one of these films – for free.
